Human genomic variation is particularly important because a very small set of these variants are linked to differences in various physical traits: height, weight, skin or eye color, type of earwax, and even specific genetic diseases. The aim of this review article is to summarize the latest developments in the discovery of human genetic variations and address the issue of inadequate coverage of genetic variations in the current genome-wide association studies, which mainly focuses on common SNPs.
